Included in this set of  two courses are exercises practiced to stretch the body, loosen the muscles, sinews and fascia of the body resulting in greater flexibility. Many of these exercises are from the 13 Exercise Forms of Tai Chi (太極拳十三式) developed by Grandmaster Wu Kuo Chung as a foundation for Tai Chi practice. The exercises are drawn from various sources, including the Five Animal Play and the Tai Chi forms themselves.

6 Basic Requirements

  1. Mentally: Practice the exercises in a comfortable and natural way.

  2. Psychologically: Try to practice with a clear, undistracted mind and focus on the concepts, theories and movements of the exercises.

  3. Conceptually: Believe beyond doubt that Qi exists. After some time of practice you will then become aware of Qi.

  4. Breathing: Breathe naturally and comfortably. Gradually make it soft, slow, thin and long. Eventually you will learn to breathe with the whole body, via the pores of the skin, instead of just the nose.

  5. Body and limbs: Relax the whole body.  Loosen the joints as if they are only connected by one ligament, gradually extending to the muscles and internal organs, almost to the point where you are unaware of its physical existence.

  6. Attitude of mind: Remember that you are practicing these exercises, you are master, not slave of the exercises. They should not feel to be a burden but rather a pleasure to do. This way you can improve faster.
