Interested in learning more about Traditional Taoist Tai Chi?
We understand that deciding whether or not to learn Tai Chi can be difficult for you if you have never experienced a class. Let me be honest and tell you that Tai Chi is not for everyone! However, if you have never tried to learn Tai Chi, you will never know.
For almost all the practitioners of Tai Chi, the goal of learning is for better physical and mental health, and extended quality of life even into old age. Historically, Tai Chi is in fact a martial art yet today very few people learn for that reason. That said, it is astounding how many people who began Tai Chi for health reasons later become intrigued by the martial aspects and devote themselves to its study. The extensive research and writings on Tai Chi that extend over hundreds of years and its continued study into modern times are evidence of its effectiveness both for health and as a martial art.
Learning Tai Chi online
Again, let me be quite honest. It's impossible to learn Tai Chi online! Of course, it is possible to learn basic exercises and even the Tai Chi forms as a type of simple calisthenics and it will undoubtedly lead to some improvements in health especially for those people who are usually less active. However, Tai Chi is more focused on changes internally in the body and attention to detail. Tai Chi is about "what you cannot see" not "what you can see!"
What you will learn
On this website, there are three membership plans for those who are unable to attend live classes and for those wanting to gain more understanding or try out some basic Tai Chi. These are our TRIAL, FOUNDATION and REFRESHER plans.
This is a free plan that provides a 15-day trial period. In addition to the general information that is publicly available on the website, you will have access to the following:
- a small selection of articles or blog posts (available when logged in under Members>Articles)
- a small selection of online learning lessons (available when logged in under Members>Learning Resources)
- Basic Principles of Tai Chi (Lesson 1)
- Tai Chi Exercises (1) (Lessons 1 and 2)
This is a paid plan that costs £30 for a three-month membership. This is suitable for people who are unable to attend classes and would like to learn some of the basics of our Tai Chi or for those wanting to try out before deciding on joining our classes. Of course, if you are able to, attending our Tai Chi taster class, An Introduction to Tai Chi, is a great way to learn more about us!
This plan provides access to the following:
- a larger selection of articles or blog posts (available when logged in under Members>Articles)
- a larger selection of online learning lessons (available when logged in under Members>Learning Resources)
- Basic Principles of Tai Chi (Lessons 1 - 5)
- Tai Chi Exercises (1) (Lessons 1 - 4)
- Learning the Tai Chi Forms (Lessons 1 and 2)
This is also a paid plan that costs £30 per year and is specifically for past students of our Tai Chi school who are no longer attending classes but still wish to keep up with their practice of Tai Chi using our online member learning resources. Non-students should not sign up for this plan as they will not be given access. You will be able to access content based on your student level at the time of leaving our school. The plan runs as a yearly recurring subscription which you can cancel at any time.
